A U.S. Navy SH-60R Seahawk helicopter from the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Pinckney (DDG 91) departs to aid in the search efforts of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. The flight had 227 passengers from 14 nations, mainly China, and 12 crew members. According to the Malaysia Airlines website, three Americans, including one infant, were also aboard.

The Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204) extends refueling lines to the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) during a replenishment-at-sea. Bonhomme Richard is the flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU), is conducting joint force operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
